A Little Book Bin (previously called Little Free Libraries) will be installed at Pyle Elementary School in honor of Read Across America Week through a partnership with Reading Hearts, Every Neighborhood Partnership, and CalViva Health. An additional 15 elementary schools will receive Little Book Bins this spring to promote reading and sharing books. The books are free to students, but they are encouraged to exchange the books they take with others. The bins will be installed so community members and students have access.Β
All bins will be created and maintained by high school students enrolled in construction courses. Schools building Little Book Bins have increased from one in 2019-20 to five this year:Β Fresno, Duncan Polytechnical, Hoover, DeWolf, and Sunnyside high schools. Students are converting Fresno Bee newspaper dispensers, no longer in use, into the Little Book Bins. The newspaper dispensers were donated to Reading Heart and Every Neighborhood Partnership.Β
βI love that these little bins are providing better access to books for our students and community, and at the same time tapping into the skills of our construction students. This is a great example of our goal that we increase studentsβ engagement in their school and community,β said Superintendent Bob Nelson.Β
