1. Career Technical Education expanding in Fresno-area schools (fresnoland.org) — Career technical education is rapidly expanding in Fresno-area schools, giving students earlier, hands-on exposure to careers from firefighting to engineering and healthcare. Districts in Fresno County and nearby communities are building pathways starting in elementary grades, aiming to boost graduation, break cycles of poverty, and better prepare local students for college, trades, or the workforce.
   

2. Well registration efforts continue in Tulare and Fresno counties (sjvwater.org) — If you own a well in northeast Fresno County, you now have until Jan. 30 to register it with the North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency before $100-per-well late fees begin Feb. 1. Nearby Tulare County GSAs are also holding workshops and pushing well registration to meet state groundwater sustainability requirements, so landowners across the region should check their local agency’s rules and deadlines.

Fresno's potential new ordinances could mean jail time for violations like public camping (kmph.com) — Fresno leaders are weighing new ordinances that could bring fines or even jail time for public camping, taking shopping carts, or using someone else’s trash bin. The proposal would give the Fresno City Attorney more power to enforce anti-encampment laws, mirroring approaches in Palm Springs and Fremont. City Council is set to vote Thursday morning.
   

5. Reps. Gray, Costa introduce water project legislation (thesungazette.com) — Fresno-area residents could see long-term water impacts from a new federal package by Reps. Adam Gray and Jim Costa that targets storage and infrastructure across the San Joaquin Valley. The bills would speed environmental reviews, coordinate federal agencies, and fund $4.4 billion in projects, including work affecting Westlands Water District on Fresno’s west side and key regional canals.
