Missing CA Mom And Baby Found Dead In Submerged Vehicle In Canal: Reports

The pair had been reported missing on July 15. They were last seen in Fresno.

FRESNO, CA — A missing mother and baby were found dead in their vehicle in a canal in California, according to multiple media reports.

The bodies of Whisper Owen and her infant daughter, Sandra McCarty, were found Sunday inside a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was submerged in a canal near Oakdale in the San Joaquin Valley.

The pair had been reported missing on July 15. They were last seen in Fresno.

Owen's family said police pinged her phone, and the last ping was at a canal in the area, CBS News Sacramento reported.

"It means we can find some way to move forward and accept this loss," Whisper's brother, Richard Owen, told CBS News. "She has other children that have to find a way to move on without their mother or their baby sister."
