1 Arrested for Throwing Rocks at Cars Near Highway 152 in Gilroy

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- A man was arrested Sunday morning after he reportedly threw rocks at passing vehicles on Highway 152 near Lovers Lane in unincorporated Gilroy.

At around 9:15 am, as deputies responded to a report, they saw about twenty vehicles pulled over on the side of the roadway that were struck by rocks.

With the help of witnesses, deputies located the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Jeremy Valdez. Authorities say that Valdez, whose city of residence was not revealed, fled the scene and ran into a very large, multi-acre grass field. In response, numerous Sheriff's deputies, along with CHP and Gilroy Police officers, arrived and set a perimeter to contain Valdez in the field.

Valdez, a parolee, was tracked down and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, numerous counts of felony vandalism, throwing objects at moving vehicles, delaying and resisting arrest and for a violation of his post-release community supervision.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Anyone with information about the rock throwing is asked to contact the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office at (408) 808-4500.
