Man Attacks Employee In Santa Clara County Grocery Store Stabbing: Police
The man, who also threw an object at another worker, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

GILROY, CA — A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed an employee at a grocery store in Santa Clara County, according to police.
Derek Bell entered the Gilroy store in the 900 block of First Street, walked into an employee-only area and was asked to leave, police said. Instead, he threw an object at one employee, hitting her with it, and, when a second worker approached him and told him to get out, Bell produced a knife, stabbed the man, then walked out of the store, according to police.
Responding officers quickly found 31-year-old Bell and detained him, and he was taken to county jail, police said.

The 51-year-old stab victim was brought to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to police.
A Safeway spokesperson said in a prepared statement that the company was "aware of the incident."

"Our primary concern is the health of our store associate who was injured," the statement said. "We are fully cooperating with the police by providing any information that might help with their investigation. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, and for privacy purposes, we cannot comment further."
