Swarm Of Strong Quakes Hit South Bay: Did You Feel Them?

A series of three powerful quakes hit early Wednesday morning that were felt around the Bay.

GILROY, CA — A swarm of earthquakes hit near Gilroy in quick succession early Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake was a 4.3-magnitude quake that struck at 6:16 a.m. Wednesday eight kilometers east of Gilroy, with a depth of 2.7 kilometers. As of 9:30 a.m., several people reported feeling it weakly (an average of 3 out of 10) on USGS's "Did You Feel It?" survey.

Two minutes later, a 2.7-magnitude quake struck nine kilometers east of Gilroy. The quake had a depth of 4.5 kilometers, and respondents also reported feeling it weakly.

Two minutes later, a 3.9-magnitude quake struck five kilometers southeast of Gilroy, at a depth of 4.8 kilometers. Respondents to reported feeling it lightly, and a bit more strongly than the others, at a four out of 10.

No reports of damage or injuries are available as of 9:36 a.m.

The earthquakes follow a busy few weeks in NorCal, where San Ramon saw several clusters of earthquakes averaging around a 3.0.
