10 Orphaned Ducklings Rescued From Morgan Hill Storm Drain

Morgan Hill Animal Services officers rescue motherless ducklings; no foul play suspected.

MORGAN HILL, CA -- If it sounds like a duck, it probably is.

Morgan Hill Animal Services and city police officers responded this week to a call from a woman who said she could hear chirping ducklings from a storm drain at the busy intersection of Main Avenue and Butterfield Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found 10 ducklings trapped in the storm drain about 6 feet down.

No one was hurt, and no foul play was cited, per police.

With the help of teammates from the city Public Works, the 10 youngsters without their mama were removed from the storm drain on that Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm not sure how long they were there, but all 10 made it and are all OK," Animal Services Officer Jared Huddleston told Patch.

Despite not having their mother, they remain together at a regional wildlife care facility and are recovering from their traumatic experience in their new home, police said, while noting they like cheese.
