Amazon Purchases 60-Acre Gilroy Site For $31M: Reports

The site, at the intersection of Highway 152 and Camino Arroyo, is expected to be a "last mile" delivery center for Amazon.

GILROY, CA — Amazon is spending $31 million to purchase a 60-acre site in Gilroy, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

The site, at the intersection of Highway 152 and Camino Arroyo, is expected to be a “last mile” delivery center for Amazon, according to the company. The delivery station would provide nearly 200 full-time jobs, the company said in a document presented to the city.

The vacant area is currently agricultural land, according to the Business Journal.

Amazon has yet to confirm the purchase, according to The Real Deal, but it was recorded in the Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder’s Office on Dec. 22. Amazon also paid nearly 20 percent more than the asking price of $26 million, according to The Real Deal.

The project received the support of the city’s planning commission in October, according to the Gilroy Dispatch.
