Driver, 21, Arrested In Highway 183 Head-On Collision; 5 Injured
State Highway 183 was closed for "an extended period of time" Wednesday night as a result of the crash, CHP officials said.

SALINAS, CA — A 21-year-old man was arrested after a head-on collision Wednesday night on state Highway 183 in which he and four others suffered injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. At 8:22 p.m., a blue Subaru Impreza with two occupants traveling south on SR-183 south of Espinosa Road drove across the center line and entered into the path of a black Chevrolet Tahoe with three occupants traveling north, CHP officials said.
The Chevrolet was unable to avoid the Subaru, and the cars collided and came to a rest blocking the lanes in both directions.
The Subaru male driver and his female passenger as well as the Chevrolet female driver and her male passenger were all transported by ambulance to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries, according to the CHP.

An additional minor riding in the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries.
CHP officials said the Subaru driver, a 21-year-old Salinas resident, was arrested because impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.
