The fundraiser officially ended last week after raising more than $400, but Juicy Burger manager Alex Tuan Lu and social media coordinator John Camarillo wanted to do more.

“It was a good idea, so we wanted to help,” Tuan Lu said.
After Saturday, Juicy Burger will match the amount raised before contributing it to Gilroy High’s Associated Students.

Gilroy has fostered a close relationship with its Japanese sister city, Takko-Machi, for more than 20 years. The city is known as “the garlic capitol of Japan,” and has an annual Garlic and Beef Festival.
After the magnitude-8.9 earthquake rocked Japan earlier this month, the
High in the mountains and nearly 200 miles from the earthquake’s epicenter, Takko-Machi was spared much of the damage and injury that has befallen the country. Residents of the rural city have donated items to help hard-hit coastal cities while rationing their own supplies, said Jessica Brewka, the city’s coordinator for international relations.
