GILROY, CA — The Luchessa Bridge will temporarily close to all traffic starting July 13 and through mid-August, officials said.

The bridge will be closed between Thomas Road and Church Street, the Gilroy Police Department said.

Residents will be asked to use detours and plan extra time to accommodate alternate routes. Emergency vehicles will still have access to the bridge at all times.

The walking trail at West Luchessa Avenue may also experience intermittent closures during construction. Detour signs will be in place to direct the public.

The closure is to support the Valley Water South County Recycled Water Pipeline Project. The project is expected to expand the distribution of additional recycled water in Gilroy, serve new customers, improve service delivery and support future expansions.
