Gilroy Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle On Weekend

GILROY, CA -- A 65-year-old man was fatally struck while trying to cross the street north of Gilroy on Friday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at about 5:50 p.m. Friday at Monterey Road and Church Avenue. A 43-year-old Gilroy woman was driving a 2018 Jeep south on Monterey Road at about 70 to 75 mph when she struck the man, a Gilroy resident who was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

The man's name is not yet being released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. The Jeep driver stopped at the scene and was not arrested, according to the CHP. Investigators do not yet know if impairment was a factor in the collision.
