Gilroy Motorcyclist Dies In Highway 156 Crash: CHP
According to the CHP, the Harley-Davidson rider died at the scene; his passenger, a Gilroy woman, was flown by helicopter to a hospital.

SAN BENITO COUNTY, CA — A fatal collision in unincorporated San Benito County on Sunday claimed the life of a Gilroy man after he turned against a red light and was hit by an SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol. An unidentified 43-year-old man was riding on his 2015 Harley-Davidson with Tiffany Gonzalez, 29, of Gilroy, on his rear seat when he attempted to turn left onto northbound San Felipe Road when lights were not permitting around 4:10 p.m., CHP officials said.
Elisa Ahumada, 66, of Hollister, had already entered the intersection of state Highway 156 in her 2005 GMC Sierra when the motorcycle turned on a red light. The motorcyclist tried to apply his brakes when he saw
the SUV, but he ultimately could not avoid the collision, according to the CHP.
Medical personnel pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

Gonzalez suffered major injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Natividad Medical Center.
Investigators have not determined why the motorcyclist turned against the light, CHP officials said.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash at this time.
