Gilroy Offers Free CERT Training
Gilroy residents can learn to prepare for any emergency situation in a four-week Community Emergency Response Team training.
GILROY, CA — The Gilroy and Morgan Hill Offices of Emergency Service are offering a free, online CERT training starting May 17.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 20-hour training designed to teach anyone to protect themselves or others in a variety of emergency situations. Trainees will learn disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations and triage, search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, terrorism, and the incident command.
The course will be a mix of online training and a one-day in-person hands-on skills training. The Zoom trainings will be held biweekly from May 17 to June 11.

The schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, May 17, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Thursday, May 19, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Thursday, May 24, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Tuesday, May 26, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Thursday, May 31, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Tuesday, June 2, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
- Thursday, June 7, 6:30pm- 8:30pm
The in-person skills portion will be taught from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 at a location to be determined.
