Gilroy Police Fatally Shoot Man After Domestic Violence Call
Reports of a violent confrontation about 7 pm Monday night between a man and a woman brought police to the scene.

Police in Gilroy fatally shot a suspect thought to be involved in a domestic violence incident Monday evening, a captain said.
Around 7 p.m. police received reports of a violent confrontation between a man and a woman at an apartment in the 6800 block of Filbro Drive, according to Capt. Joseph Deras.
Officers arriving at the scene parked their vehicle and approached the apartment.

When they were in the vicinity of a carport a man exited the apartment, according to Deras. One of the officers subsequently opened fire, fatally striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, Deras said.
As of 11:15 p.m. Monday night, the officer had not yet been interviewed, and it was unclear what transpired between the officers and the suspect prior to the fatal shooting.

The officer, a 4-year veteran of the force, was not injured or identified.
The suspect has not yet been identified, and information about his relationship to the woman involved in the domestic violence call that precipitated this evening’s shooting was not immediately available.
