Gilroy Police Officer Suspended for Criminal Charge in Merced County

Officer Noel Lemus was cited with a misdemeanor last month.

The City of Gilroy and the Gilroy Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that Officer Noel Lemus has been put on leave because of criminal charges filed against him last month.

While in Merced County in March, Officer Lemus was cited for misdemeanor resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer.

The Merced County District Attorney's Office notified the City of Gilroy on Wednesday that charges have been filed against Lemus. The city is also conducting its own investigation, according to a statement released by Police Chief Denise Turner.

Because of the Public Safety Officers Bill of Rights, there is no further information that the city can release while the criminal and administrative matters proceed.
