GILROY, CA -- It's the old 'look over here' distraction trick the thievery suspect shown here wearing a brown Oakland Raiders T-shirt may have used when he tipped over a wine bottle, sending it crashing to the floor, Gilroy police noted.

The man is accused by police of using the distraction to get the cashier to leave her register unattended when he reached in to steal a large sum of cash from the Garlic Farms Shell station.

"It was almost a perfect crime," Gilroy police Sgt. Jon Ballard said, except that he was caught on a surveillance video.

Witnesses at the store said he was seen earlier in the store.

"He must have been staking it out," Ballard addeed.
