Gilroy School Calendar 2019-20: First Day Of School And More

GILROY, CA — The Gilroy Unified School District will welcome students back to school on Aug. 14, with extended counseling services to help those in need after the deadly mass shooting at the Garlic Festival on July 28, district spokeswoman Melanie Corona told Patch.

In addition to 11,000 students who will be reporting to classes, 1,100 staff members including five new principals — three at secondary sites and two at elementary grade — will throw open the doors to the community's public education system.

The Board of Education resumes its twice-monthly meetings on Aug. 8 and 22, after taking a summer sabbatical in July.

There is no school for students on Sept. 2 for the Labor Day holiday, and Sept. 13, which is designated as Staff Development Day.

Here's a list of dates to know:

• Thanksgiving break on Nov. 25 through 29
• Winter break on Dec. 23 through Jan. 3
• Spring break on April 6 through 10
• Last day of school June 5
