Gilroy School Custodian Named Finalist For Custodian Of The Year

Rigoberto "Rigo" Bedolla, a custodian at Las Animas Elementary School in Gilroy, is in the running for the nationwide honor.

GILROY, CA — A Gilroy school custodian is among 10 finalists in the running for the 2022 Custodian of the Year Award.

Rigoberto “Rigo” Bedolla, a custodian at Las Animas Elementary School in Gilroy, made the final 10 out of over 2,200 nominations for the award, which was organized by Cintas Corporation for the ninth straight year.

Bedolla was described on the contest’s website as a “shining light” at the school, where he works alone on the night shift to clean over 30 classrooms and bathrooms.

“He will go out of his way to fix anything teachers request while also completing his long list of tasks during his shift,” the website reads. “Rigo is not often shown the appreciation he deserves, but staff at Las Animas believe he has a great attitude and does an outstanding job keeping their school clean.”

Bedolla is the sole candidate in the top 10 from California. The winner will be determined by whoever gets the most votes and receive a $10,000 cash prize along with $5,000 in products and services for their school from Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial Products.

The other nine finalists will receive $1,000 each from Cintas.
