Gilroy Woman Arrested While Sitting In Stolen Vehicle

Milpitas police arrest Samantha Chavez on suspicion of auto theft and possession of stolen property. Another man is arrested 5 days later.

MILPITAS - Police in Milpitas are on the hunt for stolen cars.

On Saturday, police announced the Christmas Day arrest of a Gilroy woman after an officer found her sitting inside a stolen vehicle at a Milpitas gas station.

According to a release, about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 25 an officer was patrolling the parking lot of a Chevron gas station located at 1249 Great Mall Drive when he noticed a parked Toyota Camry, according to police.

The officer checked the license plate of the car and discovered it was reported stolen out of Gilroy.

The officer contacted a woman who was allegedly sitting inside. She has been identified as 20-year-old Samantha Chavez, police said.

The officer arrested Chavez on suspicion of auto theft and possession of stolen property.

Chavez has been booked into the Santa Clara County jail, according to police.

Five days later, on December 30, a Milpitas police officer was patrolling the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 301 Ranch Drive, when he saw a white Ford F-250 pick-up truck which had been reported stolen out of San Jose on December 27, 2015. A single man was seen sitting inside, according to police.

The suspect, later identified as 38 year-old Morgan Hill resident Rocky Jason Stanley, was arrested without incident as he tried to walk away from the truck and into Walmart.

Police say Stanley had an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of San Benito County for burglary, and he had a small amount of methamphetamine. Stanley was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for possessing a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, providing a false name, possession of a controlled substance, and his active warrant.
