Head-On Collision In Hollister Kills 1 Man, Injures Another

Officers responded to a 6:55 p.m. report of the collision on State Route 156 east of San Felipe Road.

HOLLISTER, CA — One man died following a head-on collision Friday night in Hollister, according to a news release issued Monday by the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a 6:55 p.m. report of the collision on State Route 156 east of San Felipe Road north of the Hollister Municipal Airport.

In the ensuing investigation, officers determined that a vehicle traveling westbound driven by John Michael Canes, 26, of Hollister, veered across the double-yellow lines and collided with a vehicle traveling the opposite direction driven by a 53-year-old Hollister man.

Canes suffered minor injuries but the collision killed the other vehicle's driver, whose name has not yet been released.

CHP investigators said they do not suspect alcohol or other drugs to have been a factor in the collision.
