Hollister Resident ID'd In Fatal Gilroy Crash

She was 20 years old.

GILROY, CA — A collision on U.S. Highway 101 in Gilroy on Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman, California Highway Patrol officials said today. At about 8 a.m. Saturday, the victim was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer traveling south on Highway 101 near Buena Vista Avenue when her high rate of speed caused her to crash into the 2017 Hyundai Elantra in front of her, CHP officials said.

The woman, identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as Hollister resident Anyssa Lopez, tried to apply her brakes and veered to the right of the Elantra but was not able to stop the collision
from happening due to the speed she was going in poor weather conditions, according to the CHP.

The CHP report written by the responding officer mentioned that it was "cloudy, raining and wet" during the time of the crash.
