How Your Medi-Cal Benefits Will Change In January 2018

California's Medicaid program will now offer more dental benefits.

CALIFORNIA -- Millions of Californians who are covered under the state's low-cost health care program will now have more dental benefits. Beginning on Jan. 1, the state will restore dental benefits that were previously eliminated.

In the new year, Medi-Cal recipients can now have more dental exams, deep cleanings, laboratory crowns, partial dentures and root canals that are covered under the insurance.

In addition to those benefits, dental services can also go over the annual $1,800 limit if it's proven to be medically necessary, said state health officials.

The Los Angeles Times reported the dental benefits were previously removed in 2009 as the state suffered a "budget crisis."

More than 13 million Californians are currently insured under the Medi-Cal program, according to the state Department of Health Care Services.
