Laser Pointer Puts an Officer in the Hospital and a Man Under Arrest
Gilroy police identified the suspect after he reportedly hit an officer in the eye with the device.

A man living in the Gilroy Garlic USA RV Park was arrested Friday night after he reportedly hit a patrolling officer in the eye with a beam of laser light.
The officer, who was driving a patrol car, was temporarily blinded by the light, according to the release from the Gilroy Police Department. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Around 9:30 p.m., Gilroy police traced the source of the light to 53-year-old park resident Guy Basset. They retrieved the laser device and arrested him for the incident and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for battery.
