UPDATED: Man is in Critical Condition After Reported Hit and Run

The 56-year-old man, a Gilroy resident, was airlifted to a San Jose trauma center.

are looking for a suspect who reportedly hit a 56-year-old man with her car while he was crossing First Street Sunday night, police said in a press release.

The victim, a Gilroy resident, suffered “major injuries to his upper arm and lower leg and was flown to a trauma center in San Jose for treatment,” according to the release. He is currently in critical condition in an intensive care unit in San Jose, according to Gilroy Police Spokeswoman Amanda Stanford.

Police received the call at 8:51 p.m. and arrived near the intersection of First and Hanna streets to find “the victim being tended to by several good Samaritans,” according to the release.

The female suspect left the scene after the collision, and the incident is being treated as a felony hit and run, police said. Her vehicle, a silver car that might have been a Honda, was last seen driving south on Church Street from First Street, police said.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team gathered evidence after the incident, police said.
