McDonalds Tests Gilroy Garlic Fries, But Not In Gilroy

Four Bay Area locations have the new test product on their menu, but Gilroy residents will have to drive north to sample their own creation.

SOUTH BAY - Gilroy may be the Garlic Capital of the World, but local residents will have to drive north some 35 miles to sample McDonald's new Gilroy garlic fries.

McDonalds is test marketing the new product in four restaurants - three in San Jose, and one in Santa Clara - according to information released by the company.

The three McDonalds restaurants in Gilroy are not included.

The company says the fries are "made-to-order in McDonald’s kitchens where restaurant employees toss French fries in stainless steel bowls with a purée mix that includes ingredients such as chopped Gilroy garlic and olive oil, parmesan cheese, parsley and a pinch of salt."

There are plans to unveil the exclusive fries to 250 Bay Area locations in August if the taste catches on with Big Mac fans, according to the company.
