Negotiations Nearly Complete Between Gilroy, Sharks Over Ice Rink
The proposed facility would consist of two ice rinks, with the possibility of a swimming or recreational facility.
GILROY, CA — Negotiations over a proposed ice rink at Gilroy Sports Park in partnership with the San Jose Sharks are expected to conclude in the coming weeks, according to Gilroy City Administrator Jimmy Forbis.
Negotiations have been ongoing for about a year.
The proposed facility would consist of two ice rinks, with the possibility of a swimming or recreational facility, according to the city. The Gilroy Dispatch reported last year that the facility would be 100,000 square feet and also include a restaurant, with an estimated cost of $40 million.

City staff is expected to draft a term sheet and recommend that the city council enter into formal negotiations with the Sharks over financing, construction and operation of the facility.
“There are many steps left and with that many opportunities for public input into this project,” Forbis wrote in his February update to residents.
