New Superintendent Selected For Gilroy's Gavilan College

GILROY, CA — Pedro Avila is set to be the next superintendent/president of the Gavilan Joint Community College District, the district announced on Friday.

Avila, who is currently the assistant superintendent and vice president of student services at Santa Rosa Junior College, would replace Kathleen Rose, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

The district’s governing board plans to place Avila’s employment agreement on the agenda during the June 14 meeting.

Avila was chosen out of three finalists after an open community forum, final interviews and deliberations by the board.

Edwin Diaz, the president of the board, said the process was a “very tight timeline.”

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank all our community members, faculty and staff, for their engagement by submitting their questions and feedback,” Diaz said. “We are excited to select Dr. Pedro Avila.”
