Police Dog Catches Burglars at Elementary School

K-9 Pharaoh helped in the arrest of three teenagers who ransacked classrooms in Gilroy overnight.

A trio of teenagers is behind bars Thursday morning thanks to the valiant police work of Pharaoh, a Gilroy police German Shepherd.

At 2 a.m., the intruder alarm at El Roble Elementary School sounded. Officers along with K-9 Pharaoh showed up on scene minutes later, surrounding the campus.

"Pharaoh located three suspects inside a classroom," Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said in a Nixle alert.

Police arrested Webster Abina, 18, of Goleta, and 17-year-old from Gilroy and a 16-year-old from Gilroy, without incident.

Three classrooms were "ransacked" by the teenagers and some property had been "prepared to be removed," Espinoza said.

Pharaoh has been working with the Gilroy Police Department for close to two years. According to Espinoza, he has a stellar track record of apprehending felons.
