Preview: Council Says, 'No Cuts' to Caltrain at Special Meeting
Gilroy City Council will discuss the city's economic development and draft a letter of opposition to Caltrain's proposed cuts.
amid the agency’s unprecedented budget crisis, the Gilroy City Council plans to direct city staff in preparing a letter of opposition during a special meeting Monday.
The council will also meet with the board of Gilroy’s Economic Development Corporation to discuss how the city is moving forward after a deep recession.
Members of the public can attend the meeting at the community room, 7301 Hanna St., at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Economic Development Corporation is a city-funded endeavor that advocates for business development in Gilroy. Its new website lists available properties and provides numerous resources to help streamline the process for opening a business in the city.
Caltrain, considered an important part of the city’s long-term growth, is facing a $30 million deficit and has proposed shutting down all service to the South County as a cost-saving measure. More than 100 people in Gilroy use the train daily, and San Francisco, SamTrans and VTA share funding for the service.

Caltrain's Board of Directors will meet Thursday to hear public comment on the proposed cuts, with a decision coming in April.
