Puppy Stolen From Co. Animal Shelter In Salinas Before Adoption

The Lab mix, due to be adopted, was believed to be taken Friday night. Shelter crew noticed it missing Saturday morning.

GILROY, CA -- Police in Salinas are investigating the theft Friday night of a puppy from the Monterey County Animal Services shelter. Staff at the shelter discovered the young Labrador mix was missing Saturday morning.

The thieves broke into the shelter overnight and kidnapped the puppy. The puppy is black with white on his paws and chest.

A local family had already adopted the puppy and was scheduled to bring the animal home this week. Staff members at the county shelter are reviewing security footage of the incident to help police identify the suspects who broke into the shelter.
