Reps for Gilroy Raised over $1.5 Million on Congressional Campaigns

Find out how much Rep. Sam Farr and Rep. Zoe Lofgren's campaigns cost compared to the average.

Gilroy is split into two state congressional districts — the 19th and the 20th — making it somewhat of an oddity in California.

Rep. Sam Farr's 20th District is on the east side of town while Rep. Zoe Lofgren's 19th District is on the west side. Both won re-election in 2012.

Campaigns cost money—most of the time lots of it. In terms of dollars and cents, Farr raised $735,679 during the 2012 election cycle, according to MapLight, a non-profit that tracks money in politics. The same source lists Lofgren's total at $858,985.

Those figures are both quite low: the average House member raised $1,689,580, or $2,315 a day, according to MapLight.
