Several Gilroy Boards, Commissions Could Be On Chopping Block
The proposal to consolidate four committees to reduce staff workload will come before the Gilroy City Council on Monday.
GILROY, CA — The Gilroy City Council is expected to cut several of its commissions in an effort to reduce workload on staff.
The proposal — which would cut the Historic Heritage Committee, Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Committee, Street Naming Committee and Bicycle Pedestrian Committee — will come before the council for a vote at its meeting Monday.
The committees’ duties would largely shift to the Planning Commission, with the exception of the education and encouragement duties of the Bicycle Pedestrian Committee going to the Parks and Recreation Commission .

The staff report cited a decrease in city staff by 9 percent for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
“With fewer staffing, and many of these reduced positions being office and management staffing, there are more tasks that each remaining staff member must take on, creating less capacity to serve in support of the boards and commissions,” the staff report said.
