South Bay Heat Persists, Records Don't: NWS
Gilroy may see a toppling of its over half century record of 103 degrees, as the mercury is expected to top 104 Thursday.
GILROY, CA — Hang on to your ice cubes. Thursday's lingering heatwave may bring down a 1967 record high of 103 degrees in Gilroy, the National Weather Service told Patch.
The forecast is 104 degrees, matching Wednesday's high temperature — which didn't quite beat a record of 107.
But Wednesday's South Bay highs did experience a falling of records with the soaring mercury in both the San Jose and Mountain View areas.

At Moffett Field for one, Wednesday's 95-degree high disintegrated its 1989 record of 88 degrees. Thursday's forecast is expected to not quite match a 95-degree record.
In Santa Clara County's largest city, the 1989 record high of 96 went down at the Mineta San Jose International Airport by two degrees. Thursday may be the day to work in an office with AC, jump in a pool or go to a movie theater.

The heatwave that has prompted an advisory blanketing the San Francisco Bay Area is anticipated to break Friday into the weekend.
"It'll still be hot but not as warm," meteorologist Matt Mehle said.
