Spanish-Language Meeting for Gilroy’s High-Speed Rail Study Rescheduled

The meeting will be the first of many in Gilroy's high-speed rail visioning project.

A Spanish-language workshop from the firm studying Gilroy’s high-speed rail options has been rescheduled, according to project manager Jeff Williams from The Planning Center-Design, Community and Environment (DC&E).

The workshop has moved to May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

Following the Spanish language meeting will be an English-language “community kickoff” on May 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.

On April 4, the Gilroy City Council approved the hiring of DC&E at a cost of $200,000, helped by a $150,000 grant from the Santa Clara Valley Regional Transportation Authority.

The firm will study the merits of a station built either downtown or in an unincorporated area east of Gilroy, ultimately developing a single plan that will receive council approval and move on to the California High-Speed Rail Authority.

While the rail authority has the final say, city officials have said that a well-developed suggestion would significantly influence the authority’s decision.
