Student Brandishes Knife Inside Gilroy High School Classroom: PD

Police responded and evacuated the classroom in order to negotiate with the student.

GILROY, CA — A high school student allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife inside a Gilroy High School classroom Friday in a brief standoff, police said. Gilroy police officers responded to the incident at the high school, located at 750 W. 10th St., and evacuated the classroom.

Officers negotiated with the student and a school resource officer who knew the student was able to successfully convince him to put the knife down, according to police.

The student surrendered peacefully and he was taken to a treatment facility where he was placed on a mental health hold, police said.
