Visit Gilroy To Serve As Economic Development Advisor To City

The organization would promote Gilroy as a tourism destination and report to the city council annually.

GILROY, CA — The city of Gilroy formalized a $350,000 consultant services agreement with Visit Gilroy to serve as the city’s tourism arm.

All previous agreements between Visit Gilroy and the city had been verbal, though the city provided $300,000 for the group’s services and operations last year.

The council approved the agreement unanimously during a meeting this week. Through the agreement, Visit Gilroy would serve as an economic development advisor to the city, promote Gilroy as a tourism destination and report to the city council annually.

Visit Gilroy originally launched as the Gilroy Welcome Center in 1996.

The city has contributed $300,000 annually to Visit Gilroy, and this agreement marks a $50,000 increase in allocated money.

“The City and Visit Gilroy have participated in a mutually beneficial relationship for a number of years with both the Visit Gilroy and City of Gilroy staff sharing enthusiasm for a continued relationship,” city staff wrote in a report.
