Why California Will See More Heat Waves

Greenhouse gases growing in the Earth will contribute to more heat waves, scientists say.

CALIFORNIA -- It's hot out there, right? Well, scientists are saying heat waves will just become more common in California. A Mashable article that quoted experts said "potent greenhouse gases amassing in Earth's atmosphere, notably carbon dioxide, are responsible for trapping heat on the planet, causing overall temperatures to rise."

Daniel Swain of UC Los Angeles told Mashable that temperatures are increasing worldwide.

"We’ve been seeing a lot more record-breaking heat waves," Swain told Mashable. "It's not just this year or last year — it just the way things have been."

"The heat isn't just restricted to California, as temperatures in Phoenix, Arizona are forecast to reach over 115 degrees Fahrenheit this week."
