Your Homework Assignment: Ride this Massive Bus

It's not a message from the school district to Sacramento–it's the Monster Kool Bus.

It rides on four $5,000 tires, stands fourteen feet high and, until Tuesday, is available for rides in the Lowe’s parking lot.

It’s the 19,000-pound Monster Kool Bus, and owner Eddy said that the $5 ticket price to ride in his 460 horsepower machine at 7151 Camino Arroyo will be donated to the Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland.

“The adults like riding it more than the kids,” he said.

The owner, who said that people refer to him simply as “Eddy,” said he has completely overhauled the 20-year-old vehicle since buying it ten years ago.

The giant truck runs  on the same axels as the machines that pull aircraft at airports, helping to ferry passengers around the 100 by 300-foot space in the parking lot.

The vehicle makes quick turns, blasting sirens and wails from the engine as it whips around the course.

John Sanchez had just finished a ride Friday with his three children, John-Luke, Christian and Eva.

“I rode it last weekend, and I had to come back with the kids,” he said.

The two-week stay of the Monster Kool Bus will end on Tuesday, Eddy said. Visitors can stop by for rides from 4 p.m.–9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on weekends.

“Even if it rains, we’re gonna run,” said the owner.
