Glendora Man Charged in Connection With Alleged Vehicular Assaults

A Glendora man who allegedly struck two bicyclists and two motorists who tried to follow him Saturday pleaded not guilty Tuesday to eight felony charges, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Anthony Pina, 19 of Glendora, was charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of drunken driving causing injury and two counts of hit-and-run causing injury.

Pina was allegedly drunk behind the wheel when he hit a pedestrian in the intersection of Huntington and Mountain after doing “donuts” around him and overturning his vehicle on the 210 Freeway, near North Vernon Avenue, according to the CHP.

According to the Pasadena Star-News, Pina hit the pedestrian, a cyclist, and hit another cyclist in unincorporated Monrovia before crashing his car on the freeway. Pina is also accused of ramming into two Good Samaritans in a vehicle as they tried to stop him following the hit-and-runs.  

After overturning his vehicle, Pina tried to flee the scene on foot. Azusa officers caught up with the suspect on Virginia Avenue, at Third Street, bloody from the crash, CHP reported. The suspect was taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora.

Both cyclists suffered injuries, with the one hit on Mountain Avenue injured badly.
