Bay Area Fundraiser Started To Support Member Of Mavericks Rescue Team
Locals are trying to raise money to repair a rescue ski for a volunteer who saves surfers every year at Mavericks.
HALF MOON BAY, CA — Locals are raising money to help a volunteer who for seven years has dedicated countless hours to keeping surfers safe at Mavericks.
Drake has likely rescued you from danger, perhaps multiple times, if you've surfed Mavericks in the last ten years. Regrettably, his rescue ski recently experienced a severe and unusual mechanical failure, resulting in complete motor destruction.
Locals are aiming to raise $8,000 to help cover the cost of a new engine so Drake can get back to doing what he does best. Their trusted mechanic, Lee Ferola, has generously offered to install the new motor free of charge, and Pono Grill in Santa Cruz has already stepped up to help kickstart the fundraising.
