Man Who Strangled Mother Arrested After Hourslong Standoff In Half Moon Bay: Police
The man's 67-year-old mother came to a sheriff's substation with visible injuries asking for help, police said.
HALF MOON BAY, CA — A man who strangled his 67-year-old mother was arrested and charged after an hourslong standoff over the weekend in Half Moon Bay, according to police.
A woman with visible injuries came to the Half Moon Bay sheriff’s substation around 6 p.m. Friday to report that her 37-year-old son, Robert A. Kimuracuellar, had strangled her at their home, police said.
Kimuracuellar was under the influence of drugs, experiencing a possible mental health crisis and had barricaded himself in the home, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Several units and agencies responded, including psychiatric and crisis negotiation teams, drones and a SWAT unit, police said.
Authorities over several hours exhausted attempts at negotiation and de-escalation, but Kimuracuellar did eventually leave the home early Saturday morning after a SWAT unit was called, according to police.

Kimuracuellar was medically cleared at a hospital and booked into county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse causing injury, police said.
