Half Moon Bay's Measure R Leads In Preliminary Election Results

A ballot measure seeking to raise the sales tax by a half-cent led in the polls on election night.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — Did Half Moon Bay voters approve Measure R to raise the sales tax in an effort to offset increasing public safety costs?

The polls closed across Half Moon Bay and the state of California at 8 p.m., with the possible exception of Vote Centers that had active lines.

Requiring only a simple majority to pass, nearly 63 percent of voters approved measure R, according to tallies reported at 10 p.m. Tuesday evening's preliminary results reflect ballots received on or before Friday and do account for Vote Center ballots or those mailed or left in drop boxes after Friday.
