Here are the top 5 stories today in Healdsburg:
- The two insanely fancy apartments being built on Center Street — two doors north of Black Oak Coffee, between the Gold Bloom jewelry store and the Healdsburg Center for the Arts — just hit the market for $11.5 million and $12.5 million, respectively. They're called "The Terraces," and the sellers describe them as "unparalleled boutique build-to-suit residences" that "combine remarkable luxury with the ultimate in convenience and style." More from the double real-estate listing that went live yesterday: "The thoughtful design and architectural detail of the project sets The Terraces apart from its peers and offers unique rental income opportunity. The residences come with exquisite finishes, large terraces with full kitchens and offer both Plaza and Fitch Mountain views. The 5,200 sq ft residence includes a dramatic and private rooftop garden with pool, spas, water features, fire pits and all season barbecue kitchen and bar. The building, managed by Mayacama, will provide full time concierge, butler and chauffeur service, allowing residents and guests to tour the magnificent countryside of Sonoma and Napa counties. Residents will also enjoy full access to Mayacama Golf Club and the charming Healdsburg Ruse Inn. The Terraces experience offers the gift of being able to enjoy a unique sense of community and shared personal experience in the heart of this world renowned wine country destination." Check out the listing for some mind-blowing renderings of how the other half lives. (Compass)

The future home of The Terraces on Center Street. (Image via Google Maps) - Longtime Healdsburg resident Barbara Zilich-Thomason, well known for her work in the ag arena and at various community institutions, has passed away at age 77. She reportedly moved to Healdsburg in the 1970s and never looked back. Here are some highlights from Barbara's obituary: "She was a first-class tour guide for the visiting families and friends experiencing the treasures of California. She was always ready to go whether by car or horseback. Working as a dispatcher for several years, Barbara proudly served the Healdsburg Police Department officers and the community. She then worked for nearly 20 years for the Healdsburg School District. ... Supporting her children's interests, she volunteered for the Healdsburg 4-H and Healdsburg Future Farmers of America chaperoning students and generously opening her barn doors providing a place for students to raise livestock. As a member of Russian River Riders [at Hoof Beat Park] and Sonoma County Driving and Riding Club she was well known for her leadership at fundraising events, trail clean up and organizing rides over the years." Barbara's friends and family will be holding a celebration of life for her on the afternoon of July 9 at the Sonoma County Driving & Riding Clubhouse near the fairgrounds. (Legacy.com)
- The old Bear Republic space off the western edge of the plaza, near the bridge over Foss Creek, is nearing the end of a "significant remodel" designed to "make it more appealing" to potential future tenants, local realtor Eric Drew tells the Healdsburg Tribune. He says that "the restaurant space at 345 Healdsburg Ave. suffered 30-plus years of minor water leaks in the bathrooms, kitchen and bar areas [that] caused extensive damage to the building" — and that "there is no deal in place, but we are talking to a few interested parties.” More from the Tribune: "The 25,439-square-foot two-story building is built for a restaurant on the ground floor with office space above. The current remodel is expanding outdoor dining for the downstairs restaurant, according to Drew. He said there are a couple possible tenants in negotiation for the location, and expected an announcement later this year. When asked when a new restaurant is likely to open in the location, Drew deadpanned, 'Sometime this decade, I’m sure.'" Meanwhile, Bear Republic beers are now being brewed by the company that bought them earlier this year: Drake’s Brewing in the East Bay. They even added a new one to the lineup recently, called Racer 7 Hazy IPA — a "less bitter, fruitier" spin on their Racer 5 IPA classic. "As summer begins," the Tribune writes, "the finality of the sale is inescapable — their custom-built brewing and production facility in Cloverdale was listed for liquidation in May, and the bidding process for the facilities ends this week." Bear Republic fans and brewing enthusiasts have been picking through some cool old beer signs and other more utility items in two liquidation auctions they hosted online, but both appear to be closed now. - If you're mourning the departure of the Bear from Healdsburg and Sonoma County, you might check out another local option that's been gaining some traction: Healdsburg Beer Company. (This is not an ad, BTW — I just really love the beer!) Founder Kevin McGee says he originally brewed it in small batches for nearly 14 years from his garage in Parkland Farms, delivering it to neighbors via skateboard. A few years ago, though, his family bought the old Anderson Valley Brewing Company up in Mendocino County (where they host the popular annual Boonville Beer Fest). So Kevin has since started brewing his beers "on the big-toys in Boonville," he says. "Back when I started no one was doing super-small-batch brewing and it was a real struggle to get people to even try it," he adds over email. "Believe it or not, the first keg I sold of it was to Guy Fieri’s restaurant in Windsor and they are pretty much the first to give me an opportunity to prove the brewery was a real thing." Now many bars in Healdsburg and neighboring towns have it on tap. And last year Kevin started canning his blonde ale, IPA and porter — which you can find in local stores like Big John's and Tip Top Liquors. The Healdsburg Prune Packers baseball team is also serving it at their home games at Rec Park this season. Kevin says he will be "more formally launching" the beer statewide later this summer, including a new Belgian pale ale. You can get more details on the Healdsburg Beer Company website. - Heads up: There's a prescribed burn happening today just to our north, on Monkey Rock Road in the hills above Geyserville, according to the Northern Sonoma County Fire District: "Because the fire will be located on a ridge the fire will most likely be visible from Healdsburg and Cloverdale," district officials say. "Depending on the availability of aircraft, CAL FIRE air tankers may fly over for training. This training allows new air tanker pilots to observe fire and smoke behavior in a real world setting."
