94-Year-Old Cyclist Killed By A SUV Identified

Authorities have identified the 94-year-old Santa Rosa cyclist killed near Windsor by an SUV driver.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Authorities have identified the Santa Rosa cyclist killed near Windsor by the driver of an SUV.

The man, 94-year-old Fernando Velazquez. was stopped on the northbound, right-hand shoulder of Old Redwood Highway when a Range Rover struck the cyclist after drifting onto the shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics transported Velazquez to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died.

A GoFundMe account set up to for funeral, memorial, and legal expenses said he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church who rode his three-wheeler around town, "staying active, and spreading joy."
