SONOMA COUNTY, CA—The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors signaled its intent Tuesday to purchase two modern office buildings near the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.

As the next step in a larger plan for re-envisioning the County Government Center, the board authorized staff to publish a notice of intent to purchase the properties at 3850 and 3880 Brickway Blvd. in Santa Rosa.

Staff will study the purchase of the two buildings—independently appraised for $32 million —then seek the board's formal approval May 6 to move forward.

The new office space could house up to 525 county employees who would relocate from aging buildings on the main county campus at Administration Drive in Santa Rosa. Once vacated, the buildings would be demolished to make room for a new government center with housing and commercial space.

The two Brickway buildings were constructed in 2001 and combined, provide 126,000 square feet of floor space. County officials said an additional $15 million would be needed to make improvements to the buildings. They see it as an efficient move because the county already leases several office buildings near the airport.
