Garbage Truck Crashes Block Hwy 101 North Of Healdsburg

BREAKING: Two separate garbage truck crashes occurred within minutes Wednesday, California Highway Patrol says.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Northbound U.S. Highway 101 north of Healdsburg area was blocked this morning by two separate garbage truck crashes within about five minutes, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The crashes occurred around 9 a.m. Wednesday just south of Lytton Springs Road. One truck crashed into the center divide, overturned and blocked the fast lane of the highway. The crash damaged about 100 feet of the center divider, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The other truck overturned on the right shoulder of the road, Sloat said. The trucks were hauling yard waste, Sloat said.

The driver in the first crash was not injured and the other driver suffered minor injuries, Sloat said.

The trucks were driving at an unsafe speed on the wet roadway, Sloat said. Traffic was diverted onto Dry Creek Road, Sloat said.

The CHP was expecting the highway might be reopened around noon.
