HBG Crews Remove Plaza Oak, Restore Holiday Tree

Healdsburg Oak tree must go Friday after recent storms that damaged the plaza holiday tree and felled others.

HEALDSBURG, CA — High winds from an overnight storm sent trees crashing down on parked cars, the town Christmas tree, and gift boxes.

A large branch splintered from an oak tree in the southwest part of the Healdsburg Plaza, damaging the decorated city holiday tree and two gift boxes. Healdsburg crews worked most of the afternoon repairing damage to the tree lights, and "the holiday tree will stand brightly for the remainder of the season," City of Healdsburg staff said in a Facebook post.

HoCrews arrived early Friday morning to remove the damaged oak tree.“Unfortunately, the damage to the oak is significant, and it’s not safe to leave it in place,” said Ray Holley, a spokesperson for the City.

Healdsburg Police Chief Matt Jenkins asked motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area. He urged them to use alternate routes, while crews assessed the damage and removed the tree.

Other downed trees were reported at the corner of Chablis and Chiquita.

Healdsburg crews started removing the oak tree early Friday.
