Greyhounds fall to Community Charter, 33-28
First annual Natiional Prep Classic matchup in Santa Maria draws national and local teams; Greyhounds' Omar Davila home from hospital and "doing very well," principal says.

lost its semifinal matchup Tuesday with Southern California's Community Charter school 33 to 28 at the first annual National Prep Classic in Santa Maria.
The loss knocked the Hounds, who took El Modena on Monday 49-35, out of the running for today's championship game in the prep division. That game will be between Community Charter and Pacific Hills.
At the National Prep Classic, the prep division is one of two divisions along with the national division. A total of 54 games are being played through today. For each 3-point shot hit in the games, $10 will be donated to purchase a bed net to prevent malaria.

The Greyhounds were coming off a fourth place finish in the recent REIBT tournament. Healdsburg's girls varsity basketball team made it to the championship game in the REIBT, coming in second after being defeated in a close game with McKinleyville.
"We had a fabulous tournament," said Principal Chris Vanden Heuvel of the REIBT in a video aired on MyHBG.tv.

Healdsburg played in the National Prep Classic without team member , who collapsed during a practice drill Nov. 23. Davila, revived by CPR from Coach Travis Taylor, has returned home from the Oakland Children's Hospital, according to Vanden Heuvel.
"He is home and doing very well," Vanden Heuvel said in the MyHBGtv video. "I want to recognize Coach Travis Tayor for his speedy response to Omar's accident when he had some heart issues on the basketball court.
"Coach Taylor was heroic in his efforts to do CPR, and saved his life," Vanden Heuvel added. "We are very grateful to Coach Travis Taylor."
Vanden Heuvel said Davila is expected to return to school after the holiday break.
