Is Your Car Seat Safe? Free Installation Check This Weekend

Think your car seat is installed correctly? You're probably wrong, according to a local hospital official.

Local families can have their car seat installation checked Saturday at an event in Windsor.

SONOMA, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2013) – Sonoma County families can enjoy a fun “pit stop” and ensure car-seat safety at the 2nd annual Sonoma County Seat Check Saturday on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Sonoma Raceway will partner with St. Joseph Health and Safe Kids Sonoma County for this event, which will be hosted from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. outside the Huerta Gymnasium off of Windsor Town Green (9291 Old Redwood Highway, Windsor). Nationally-certified technicians will be on hand to properly install your child seat and offer tips for in-car child safety.

“Seventy-five percent of all children’s car seats are installed incorrectly,” said Karli Tedeschi, Coordinator of Injury Prevention with St. Joseph Health, the region’s sole provider of Level II Trauma car and a leader in Safe Kids Sonoma County. “We want to make sure children leave our event safer than when they arrived.”

This is the second consecutive year that St. Joseph Health will partner with the Windsor Police Department on a car-seat safety event. In its inaugural year, more than 50 car seats were checked for a proper fit in just four hours.  The California Highway Patrol and other car seat technicians from local police departments and clinics will also be on hand to check seats and offer safety advice.

Sonoma Raceway will bring some high-speed fun to the day with the No. 18 M&M’s Toyota NASCAR show car and a 5/8-scale Legends race car on display. Kids and parents alike can take pictures with the racecars and pick-up raceway decals. 

As a part of St. Joseph Health of Sonoma County and the region’s Level II Trauma Center, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital is the “Official Emergency Services Provider” of Sonoma Raceway and provides the raceway with all medical staff at major-event weekends, including the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and the IZOD IndyCar® Series events.
